The Harp Village Service Excellence Award

Recognizing the importance of integrity, kindness and respect in everyday life.

How it was run

The "Service Excellence Award" scheme was run jointly by the Harp Village Business Association and the Rotary Club of Kew on Yarra Customers of traders in Harp Village had an opportunity to participate in a scheme to recognize and reward excellent service by traders in Harp Village by casting votes during April and May 2005 A panel comprising representative from Kew on Yarra Rotary (Mark Miller and John Presutto) and the Business Association (Director Jennifer Collins) chose the winning individual and business In choosing the winner, the panel considered not only the number of nominations of participating individuals and businesses, but also how well the stories exemplify the qualities of integrity, kindness and respect and the principle of "Service Above Self".

The Winners

A number of businesses were nominated and the panel was impressed at the level of service in Harp Village overall. With the development of megamarts, the importance of traditional shopping centres and the service they can provide is often forgotten. After careful consideration, the winner selected was Brad Smith who works for Bill Cutler Optometrists of 678 High Street, Kew East.

The winning nomination was made by Kaye Gorman telling how her son Luke Gorman was looked after by Brad over the years.

Brad Smith - Certificate and a cheque of $200

Bill Cutler - Certificate and a plaque inscribed with his business and Brad’s name as the winner for 2004-05

Kaye Gorman - Cheque for $50 for submitting the winning nomination and sharing her story with us

Conclusion

Within club, Colin Berris, predecessor, for having the idea for this Award and setting the wheels in motion for Mark Miller and John Presutto.

Jennifer Collins and John Di Palma of the HPVBA for their support of this initiative.

Kaye Gorman and her son Luke for their nomination.

Most of all, thank Bill Cutler and Brad smith for giving us such a good example of the importance of courtesy and consideration in everyday life – the principle of "Service Above Self".
